The first step in getting your driving license is applying for a provisional license. For you to book your first practical lesson in driving you should have applied and received your provincial driving license. To apply online you are required to have met the minimum age requirement, have good eyesight, can pay by debit or credit card, have a passport or a national ID, should not have been currently forbidden to drive for any reason and you must also provide your home address details. A photo of you will also be required.
The next step in getting a driving license is the theory test. You must go to book theory test online ni and register to do the test. The theory test is made up of two sections which are the multiple choice section and the hazard perception section. For you to get a certificate you must pass both sections. You can only go ahead to do the practical driving test if you have passed the theory test.
For the theory test multiple choice section, the questions are not published. This means that any question you get for revision can give you an idea of what the questions are and what answers are expected. But those will not be the same questions you will expect in the actual test. The actual questions are not made available so that students do not go memorizing the questions. This also ensures that drivers get a better understanding of the driving theory.
In the hazard perception theory test section, a short video clip is shown at the beginning of that section. The clip shows how that section of the theory test should be followed. The clips that follow feature road scenarios which have a developing hazard. A developing hazard is a case that can lead to you deciding to take a course of action like changing direction or speed. During this test, you are required to correctly identify the hazard as soon as it develops in order for you to score high marks.
The next step in getting your driving license is booking the practical test. After passing both sections of the theory test and you feel that your practical skills have gotten to a suitable level, with permission from your instructor, you can go ahead and book your practical driving test.
In the practical test, an independent driving section is incorporated. Here you are required to follow signs to a certain location in order for the examiner to be able to assess how you manage without direct instruction.
After passing the practical driving test, you can now apply for a full driving license. But if you have a photocard provisional license and your name has not been altered, the examiner can send your pass certificate to the DVLA and you will be given your full driving license. But in case you have changed your name or you only have a paper provincial license, then you are required to fill out the declaration on your test pass certificate and a D1 license application. You must also provide documents that prove your identity.
